Creative Direction + Visual Design
For the launch of ASU Law’s JD Part-time Online degree (JDO) program—the nation’s first ABA-accredited, fully online, part-time Juris Doctor—I led the creative direction with a focus on clean, modern design that stood apart from the school’s existing campaigns. The goal was to visually signal a new era of legal education, designed for those passionate about public service, especially in rural and underserved communities.
To reflect this mission, I created a minimalist visual system rooted in accessibility, balance, and inclusivity:
People cut-outs within circles served as a subtle nod to the idea that anyone could pursue a JD through this program. The circular shapes also played on the abbreviation “JDO”, introducing a geometric, dynamic element into the design.
A plus sign motif, introduced as part of a broader brand initiative, was used to echo the scales of justice in a fresh, modern way—symbolizing balance, opportunity, and growth.
The overall aesthetic embraced negative space, clean typography, and a restrained color palette, setting a clear visual contrast from rankings-focused or traditional ASU Law materials.
This creative system not only elevated the JD Online brand but laid the groundwork for a distinct, ownable visual identity that could scale across digital and print platforms while staying true to ASU Law’s evolving mission.
